Leslie is a phenomenal lactation consultant. She is very personable, down-to-Earth, knowledgeable, and makes herself available during every part of your breastfeeding journey. She makes it a point to really listen to mothers then suggests insights based on her observations and knowledge.
My son was having trouble latching shortly after birth, but the first lactation consultant and a nurse assured me nothing was wrong, and it would just take time for him to learn. But intuitively, something didn’t feel right. Leslie started her shift, walked into my hospital room, listened to my concerns, did a visual check of my son and immediately said, “He has a tongue-tie. That’s why he’s not latching properly.” I cried because she was the first person who listened to me and validated my concerns. As a first-time mom who knows nothing about the journey, I can’t explain how important it is to feel validated when you can’t explain what’s wrong but, deep down you know it. Because of Leslie’s keen observation, we got my son’s tongue-tie clipped the same day and he breastfed like a champ for a year.
Leslie was with me the entire journey. She made sure I had support by inviting me to a breastfeeding support group, I called and texted her at random hours of the night whenever I needed advice and she always responded, and she was hands-on in the beginning when I didn’t know how to get my son to latch properly. She showed me several different breastfeeding positions to try and helped me feel calm and confident when I got frustrated and thought I couldn’t do it. Leslie was incredible. I credit her with my breastfeeding success.
More than that, we became friends. She is the sort of person that you naturally gravitate to because she has such a generous, loving personality. Even though we’ve both moved to different states now, we keep in contact. After my second son’s birth, I even asked her for more breastfeeding advice, because you can never have too much, and in true fashion, she responded, ready to help.

My breastfeeding journey was unique. I have IGT and hypoplasia. This means I do not have enough developed milk ducts to be able to exclusively breastfeed my babies. When I met Leslie, I was on baby #4, I had learned to use a SNS nursing system and was able to have the relationship and experience of nursing but in my own way. A lot of nurses were confused and almost off out by my way of nursing, but Leslie did not even blink an eye. She was so welcoming and supportive. She got me as many feeding tubes and syringes I needed. She helped adjust my hold and latch to optimize my nursing experience. She cheered me on for using donor milk. We even have gone onto her helping with me with research while I was nursing school for papers. She is an amazing person and has the temperament of love support for mothers of all walks of life!

After a problematic and ultimately failed attempt at breastfeeding my first son, I was apprehensive about whether I could be successful when my second son came along. Leslie walked into my hospital room and I instantly felt at ease. After discussing my previous struggles, she was calm, reassuring, and determined to help me. She went above and beyond to observe my feedings, offered me advice and encouragement, and was overall just a ray of sunshine in my journey. I attribute her expertise and kindness to my successful start and ultimate 2+ years of breastfeeding my youngest son. Being able to feel confident and supported was the difference, and Leslie was absolutely the key to my successful start. I had experienced other consultants as a patient and also as a fellow caregiver, but nobody else compared to Leslie! I continued to work with Leslie for years to come at our local children’s hospital, and I saw her give that same care and compassion to all the mothers she worked with. Truly an amazing lactation consultant and friend that I still miss in East TN!

Leslie was the lactation consultant who came to see me in the hospital six years ago when my daughter was born. I was a first time mom and was feeling very unsure of myself when it came to breastfeeding. She gave me the boost of confidence I needed and said I looked like I had everything under control. She made me feel so sure of my ability to nurse my daughter. After talking with her and being evaluated I knew I could do it! She’s awesome! An amazing lactation consultant and an amazing person!

When I had my youngest at only 28 weeks gestation I was a mess in every way. Leslie taught me how to pump, how to maintain a steady schedule and counseled me on how to increase supply. She was always near when I needed her and she offered me emotional support through the pumping journey during the three months my baby was in the NICU. Leslie was always kind to me and always made me feel comfortable.I truly believe the support she gave me helped save my baby’s life and my own sanity.

Leslie was my lactation consultant with my third baby, who was in the nicu. She was incredibly attentive, patient and knowledgeable. She gave great advice, helping me determine that my daughter had a lip and tongue tie and helped me adjust my latch so that I could feed her in the mean time prior to getting her a frenulectomy
